About Chichibu Night Festival (秩父夜祭)
The biggest annual event is the Chichibu Night Festival that takes place every December and is ranked among the top three festivals featuring floats with Kyoto’s Gion Matsuri and the Takayama Matsuri.
Every year definitely this night festival is held 2nd and 3rd December. Weekday, school holiday, public holiday, do not matter.
Only these two dates, JR line connects with Chichibu railway from Kumagaya station so that more people can join the festival easily.
One main event is of course to be able to see big floats decorated with gorgeous festival items and inside the float, even though it is really tiny space, there are several men who are beating Japanese traditional dram and playing bamboo flute to perform Chichibu Yatai Bayashi, like traditional Chichibu music.
The music creates fun rhythm by only beating 3~4 small drams and 1 big dram. That should make you so exciting and very suitable for the festival atmosphere.
Also, you can see very beautiful and huge fireworks.
Compared to Australian new year countdown, it is such a huge, marvelous, and higher technical fireworks!
During the festival, there are approximately 900 stalls. This is also one of the enjoyable things. Some small plays, lots of delicious local foods and stacks…. sort of amusement park is on street!
Do not miss it when you visit Chichibu at the beginning of December! Then don’t forget warm jacket!
