It takes approximately 2.5 ~ 3 hours by car from Tokyo, Haneda airport to Nagatoro. We can arrange the transfer service to Nagatoro.
If you enjoy the train travel, at first you go to Ikebukuro by JR line from Haneda airport station, then transfer to Seibu-Ikebukuro line bound for Seibi-Chichibu station. Limited Express “Laview” (Formerly “Red Allow”) is the best way. Then from the Seibu Chichibu, walk down to Ohanabatake station on Chichibu railway to go to Nagatoro station.
Pile of Rocks View(Iwa-Datami)
Main photo spot pile of rocks, called “Iwa-Datami (岩畳)” is the key sightseeing area in Nagatoro. One of the famous activities Nagatoro Line Kudari (River wooden boat cruise) is the best way to enjoy this beautiful landscape. Uplifted crystalline schist became the landscape which looks like Japanese mat (Tatami).
The river (Arakawa-river) is really clear and you may be able to see some fish if you are lucky. It takes about only 5 minutes by walking from Nagatoro Station to get here. In 1924, this Iwa-Datami has been designated as Japan National Natural Monument.
Especially, autumn season is the busiest. Here is popular tour area to see autumn colour of leaves so the boat cruise is also getting hard to make bookings. However, the river cruise sightseeing for the autumn colour of leaves is the best spot to enjoy.
Hodosan-Shrine
You walk on the path along old Japanese atmosphere shopping stores, around 15 minutes walking from Nagatoro station.
At the base of Hodosan (Mt Hodo), there is Hodosan-Shrine. From there, you can enjoy hiking in the Hodosan. then at the summit of Hodosan, zoo, plum orchard, and seasonal beautiful flowers are also a lot of Nagatoro tourists’ purpose.
There is a cableway to go up to the summit and if you are lucky, you can see see of clouds “Unkai” from the top of Hodosan.
It must be the marvellous view of whole Nagatoro. Once you reach the summit, what about visiting plum orchard and Hodosan zoo park? You can see monkeys, deer, goat, rabbit and more cute animals!
