What is “Fudasho”?
Fudasho refers to a pilgrimage where visitors travel to designated temples and collect a temple stamp in a special stamp notebook. This notebook can be purchased at any of the Fudasho temples, making it a meaningful souvenir of the journey.
In Chichibu, there are a total of 34 Kannon temples. Kannon is known as the goddess of mercy and compassion, and each temple is dedicated to a different manifestation of her.
During the Edo period (1603–1867), many local residents walked this pilgrimage route to pray for good health, success in work, financial stability, and overall well-being.
Completing one full cycle of all 34 temples covers approximately 100 kilometres, taking pilgrims across valleys, mountain paths, and through the rich natural landscapes of Chichibu.
Why not challenge yourself with this rewarding walk—relaxing in Chichibu’s beautiful nature while spiritually connecting with the compassionate presence of the Kannon deities along the way?
