Tucked away near Bushu-Nakagawa Station on the Chichibu Railway Line, the mountains of Chichibu offer a quiet escape that still feels like a well-kept secret. Unlike more popular hiking destinations, this area remains largely undiscovered, making it an ideal choice for those who prefer nature without the crowds.
The trails here wind gently through peaceful forests and open mountain paths, offering a calm and unhurried experience. It’s the kind of place where you can truly slow down—breathing in the crisp air, listening to the subtle sounds of nature, and enjoying the scenery at your own pace.
For travelers seeking something off the beaten path, Chichibu’s hidden trails provide a refreshing alternative. It’s not just a hike—it’s a chance to reconnect with nature in a setting that feels personal, tranquil, and uniquely yours.

At first glance, the trail may appear to be a simple walking path—much like the one shown in the photo above. However, looks can be deceiving. This route is more extensive and adventurous than it initially seems.
As you continue along the path, it winds its way through lush forests and gentle slopes, gradually revealing a deeper sense of exploration. What starts as a relaxed walk soon transforms into a rewarding journey, offering moments of quiet discovery and immersion in nature. It’s more than just a casual stroll—it’s a small adventure that invites you to disconnect and experience the landscape in a more meaningful way.

As you make your way deeper into the mountains, the trail gradually takes on a more untamed, almost jungle-like atmosphere. This path isn’t just for hikers—it’s also used to access camping areas and forestry work sites, which adds to its rugged and authentic feel.
That said, this is genuine mountain terrain, and nature here is very much alive. Encounters with wildlife such as snakes—and occasionally even bears—are possible. For this reason, it’s important to take extra care. It’s best to avoid the area in the late afternoon or evening, and to plan your walk with ample daylight so you can enjoy the experience safely and with peace of mind.

In autumn, the mountains transform into a vibrant canvas of color, with brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold bringing the landscape to life.
As you walk along the trail, you’re treated to breathtaking views of the mountainside—so picturesque it feels like stepping into a postcard. It’s undoubtedly one of the best times to visit, especially for those who want to experience nature at its most visually stunning.
