Wooden Boat on Arakawa River (荒川)
It is very small boat which can be boarded up to 15 passengers. Then there are 2 crews wearing traditional Japanese boat staff uniform and they operate and control only 1 nartual wooden oar each. (Sometimes 3 crews)
Arakawa river starts in the mountains of Chichibu and run through Tokyo bay. It is over 170km and the catchment area is about 3000㎢, one of the huge rivers in Japan.
If you go to deeper mountain spot, there are beautiful camping places, nature activities, or fishing areas. A lot of tourists visit Chichibu and going hiking is also their main purpose, and that is kind of real thrill for Chichibu visit purpose.

The Most Famous Activity on Chichibu Nature
It is rafting activity so you may get wet and make you so excited!
The boat will start from very calm stream and the crew will explain about Nagatoro and some Chichibu nature histories on the boat and also you can hear any information regarding the Nagatoro nature around the Arakara river.
After that, the boat is going to a little bit faster stream then you may feel like natural roaster coaster.
In the middle of the cruise course, you can find several rocks on the way of course so it makes you feel dangerous. But the experienced crews operate very nicely and the boat will ward the rock safely.
Arakawa river is very clear and beautiful. If you want, you can touch with care and feel cold but so fun!
This boat cruise will be approximately 20 minutes and you will be back to the start point by shuttle bus.
Easy to Access & Book!
This cruise start point is very easy to access. It is just 5 minutes walking from Nagatoro station. Also, most Ryokan or hotels in Nagatoro are located close to the station so you can walk to join the cruise!
Also, there are no specific timetable for this cruise activity. When several customers book and get together, the cruise will be started, no need to book in advance.
But if you book in advance, it is much smoother.
