If you get the chance to stay at this accommodation, consider yourself very lucky! This traditional-style building is quite rare, and availability is extremely limited. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the unique charm of a “Suginoko” homestay!
1. 300 years history
As mentioned earlier, thatched roofs are extremely rare and culturally significant in Japan — and Suginoko is one of the few remaining places where you can experience this traditional architecture.
Located in Chichibu City (formerly Arakawa Village), Suginoko is about a 10-minute walk from Bushu-Nakagawa Station on the Chichibu Railway. If you’re coming from Seibu-Chichibu, simply walk to Ohanabatake Station and take the Chichibu Railway for a quick 10-minute ride to Bushu-Nakagawa.
It’s said that Suginoko is the only thatched-roof accommodation in all of Saitama Prefecture. While strolling around the old Arakawa Village area, you might even spot a few other traditional homes with similar thatched roofs, offering a glimpse into Japan’s countryside heritage.

2. Only lunch or dinner booking available!
Suginoko isn’t your typical accommodation — it’s more like a rural homestay experience. Because of this, availability is quite limited, with only one group accepted per day and many blackout dates throughout the year.
Even if you don’t stay overnight, you can still visit for lunch or dinner. The meals feature delicious local ingredients such as fresh mountain vegetables, handmade soba (buckwheat noodles), and hearty nabe (hot pot) dishes.
Every meal at Suginoko feels like a warm, home-cooked feast — comforting, simple, and full of heart. Even if you can’t stay the night, why not stop by and enjoy the taste of rural Japan?
