Chichibu, especially former Arakawa village, is one of the Soba towns in Japan and every year, Soba festival is held in Chichibu. Several years ago, the Arakawa soba festival was being held in June, but in recent years, it is tend to be held in autumn season, around October – November.
The former Arakawa village area is famous as soba town. There are many great soba restaurants. We don’t have so many chances to eat soba in Australia. It seems difficult to cook overseas.

Arakawatei is also a famous soba restaurant in Chichibu. I have very often been here to eat soba, but this restaurant also has “Soba-Dojo”, which means “Soba-Gym”.

You can learn at the soba-gym how to cook soba, but it’s not only boiling! You cook from the stage to malaxate soba dough, spread it, cut it, then boil. You will experience the whole process of soba cooking!
