From TBS News: “Shibuya is NOT for Halloween”

On 05 October, the Shibuya Ward Mayor released his statement that “Please do not come to Shibuya on Halloween”. He was thinking about Shibuya lockdown on the day.

Shibuya Ward Mayor Hasebe said “The same tragedy happened at Itaewon in Korea may also happen in Shibuya”. So he has announced not to come to Shibuya for Halloween purpose.

On 29 October 2022, more than 100,000 people gathered in Itaewon in Halloween week and more than 150 visitors passed away with the crowd crush accident.

Mr Hasebe also said he though Shibuya lockdown, but it is impossible as others need Shibuya district for their public transport and their usual life.

Instead, there are some special rules or restrictions in Shibya Halloween week.

・The number of patrols will be increased a lot between 28 – 31 October 2023.

・Public alcohol consume is prohibited. Most stores won’t sell alcohols during the period.
