“Shibuya Halloween lockdown” has started from last weekend and this will continue to the end of 31 October.
Shibuya station and the surroundings have been blockaded and nobody can’t come into. The famous status “Hachiko” is also not available during the Halloween period.
In the past, there were more than 40,000 people getting in Shibuya Halloween for peak period. Shibuya ward is expecting there may be more than 60,000 people coming and they are afraid of troubles more than past seasons.
The biggest concern is the crowd crush accident happened last year in Itaewon, Korea and 159 people were passed away.
To avoid such an accident, Shibuya ward officially has announced please do not come to Shibuya for Halloween purpose.
From 6 am, a lot of truck were arriving at Shibuya and loading stuff for blockade. The blockade work was finished around 8am
From the afternoon, all cars and pedestrians are controlled to proceed by police.
During the Halloween period, car parking is also restricted. Some curbside parking are not available to avoid congested.
International visitors from Brazil said “There are not so many halloween costumed people this year, We wanted to enjoy the Halloween herem but we will leave soon. It is getting dangerous once congested….”

・The number of patrols will be increased a lot between 28 – 31 October 2023.
・Public alcohol consume is prohibited. Most stores won’t sell alcohols during the period.
・Several roads are blocked to control cars and pedestrians flow
